Dominica: Written in Rivers
An artistic take on mapping the “Nature Island” of the Caribbean. This map uses only river labels and a simplified coastline to highlight the density and distribution of waterways across Dominica.
Dominica is often described as having “365 rivers — one for every day of the year.” Keen observers will notice that fewer rivers are shown here. The map is based on OpenStreetMap data, where not all rivers are named or consistently attributed.
River labels were initially placed automatically, then carefully adjusted by hand to achieve clear placement and a balanced overall composition. The result is a map that emphasizes pattern, flow, and character over completeness.
